Black & White Drawing:

This tried and true method of rendering a subject is something I come back to again and again. It is simple and clean due to the limited palette, yet also incredibly powerful. The rich black creates a striking contrast with the white of the paper. For an artist, the challenge becomes how to create tone and texture of three dimensional objects while being limited to tools such as the variation of line weight and spacing of the pen strokes. The featured image above demonstrates how a gradient can be created using hatch marks. Want some extra fun? Try adding a dip pen and nib to the mix! The lion below was created doing just that.
